Safety Inductions

SAFETY INDUCTIONS

All safety inductions can be taken online and some also require a practical in person assesment.

You will be able to login to the portal using the following link Training Portal with your university credentials. (if you cannot login please email matworks@sheffield.ac.uk with your details and we will look into it)

Some are mandatory to access certain areas. EVERYONE will need to do some basic safety training (module 1.General Workshop Induction) if they want to visit the workshop.

This applies to those who have previously used the George Porter Workshop, you will have to complete the new induction modules below. ALL inductions completed before 18th September 2023 are NOT VALID.

If you wish to access the machine shop, please complete the online training. Once you have completed all parts of the machine training you will need to complete a practical session of around 45 minutes (within 1 week of completing all onling inductions) to demonstrate understanding and competency on each machine.
We will also answer any questions you may have during this session and clarify anything you don't understand. Once this is completed you will be asked to sign to confirm your training and we will stamp your Ucard, please bring this with you every time you come to the workshop.

Through the portal you will also have access to all area Risk Assessments, Safe operating Procedures and COSHH Risk assessments. Please use these for reference whenever you need to.
