Welcome back to Sheffield
Sara & myself (Stuart) have been busy getting everything ready for your return.
For those of you that are new, our facilities include laser cutters, machine shop, hand tools workshop, CNC router, studio space, materials shop and two skilled technicians full of wisdom and helpful advice.
Inductions
For area access you will need to complete some safety inductions. These can be accessed online HERE under the workshop inductions section. (you need to be logged in with your uni account to access this)
Everyone must have completed the general induction (course 1).
If you wish to use our machine shop please also take courses 2-6 and sign up for an in person test via links on the website. Courses 7 & 8 (only for year 3 & MArch) are optional, but both must be taken to use the specific equipment.
Laser Cutting
Laser cutting is free at the point of use and is booked online. You only need to purchase your materials, you can use your U-Card credits for this (they aren't just for printing). Bookings and more information can be found here.
We have a fair use policy and you will be permitted upto 2 hours per week. Please do not book more than you need, as others also want access to the equipment.
We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

2021 - 2022 George Porter Workshop
Wow!! What a year it's been!!
It's a pleasure to help support all your wonderful creations here at the George Porter Workshop this academic year. Students creative imaginations are what makes our jobs very special. From sensory LED garments to cutlery jewellery, from furniture constructed out of trees to sunny sandcastles...you've made it all and we wouldn't have it any other way.
To celebrate, we have made a snap shot of just some of these moments because we're lovely like that.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the students for making our year wonderful.
For those who have completed their studies, we wish you all the success and happiness in the future.
For those who will be returning, have the best summer break and we will see you in September. Don't forget to collect your materials/models from the Workshop shelving before 12pm Friday 1st July due to our big summer clear out. We will put out another reminder post in a week or two.

This is to allow staff to fabricate new structures and set up boards. If everything runs smoothly we will be able to re-open, but please do not leave anything important for this week.
I strongly advise any model making or base fabrication that you need for the exhibition is this week!
