 WELCOME BACK!

We’ve been busy getting everything ready for your return. There are still a few restrictions in place that you need to be aware of, but all areas are now open.
Please make yourself familiar with the protocols before you come down. HERE
Inductions
For area access you will need to complete some safety inductions. These can be accessed online HERE under the workshop inductions section. EVERYONE needs to renew their training due to the length of time since your last visit.
Everyone must complete the general induction. If you wish to use our machine shop please take courses 2-6 (Courses 7 & 8 are optional for year 3 and MArch, but must be taken to use the specific equipment)
Then, sign up for an in person test: (you need to be logged in with your uni account to access the sheet)
Year 1 - HERE
Year 2 - HERE
Year 3 - HERE
MArch - HERE
More sessions will be available soon - please only sign up to your year specific sessions.
Please check our website for sign up links.
Laser Cutting
Laser cutting is free at the point of use. You only need to purchase your materials, you can use your credits for this (they aren't just for printing).
We are offering this on a fair use policy and you will be permitted upto 2 hours per week. Please do not book more than you need, as others also want access to the equipment.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

**PLEASE NOTE: Any visits to the workshop must be booked in advance.

This includes the shop & the Laser cutters. Please email or use the Online Material Workshop for all other quires.

Bookings can be made online HERE

Unfortunately some areas will have to remain closed as they can't be accommodated safely in the current circumstances and will remain closed. This includes the machine shop, hand tools workshop and the studio space. Like you, we hope that things change for the better soon and we are keen to open fully as soon as it is safe to do so.

New COVID‐19 Rules and precautions

  • Please ensure that you sanitise your hands when entering/exiting the Workshop (using provided sanitiser)
  • You must wear a face covering (which covers your mouth and nose) throughout the duration of your visit

Observe the social distancing spacing indicated on the floor. Social distancing restricts the number of people that can be in the Workshop at any one time, and so we have the following provision in place:

  • Only the Digital workshop & Materials Shop are currently open.
  • We are operating a one way system. Please enter via the main entrance lobby and exit via the side exit next to the shop. Do NOT enter via the side entrance.
  • The laser cutters will be available and must be pre booked online as usual however there will be limitations due to social distancing rules.
  • There are strict limits on numbers in rooms so you will need to arrive 15 minutes before your slot and leave on time. You will need to ensure your job will be finished within the allotted time (The Laser cutter software will give you a cutting time). This will be strictly enforced.
  • Slots now will be 50 minutes to allow time for cleaning between users, and you’ll need to clean the Laser cutter, keyboards, mouse & any surfaces you’ve touched before and after use with the wipes provided.
  • Once you have been seen by a member of staff or finished your session, then please follow the one way system and leave by the side exit.

We've created a virtual walk-round which can be found here

It's really important you familiarise yourself with the changes we have made to our facility and service. Please take 5 minutes to view our new Virtual Tour before you visit us.

The workshop facilities are accessible to all students and staff in the Sheffield School of Architecture after the successful completion of our safety inductions. You will be able to login to the portal here with your university credentials to complete the "General Workshop Inductionbefore you visit us.

We are still using the online Inductions booking system (here) for the laser cutters.

We look forward to seeing you.
